Written in the tradition of epic verse drama, The Pendragon is an Arthurian tragedy set in the 6th century A.D. and based on the legend's Welsh roots. Featuring well known characters such as Lanslod, Arthur, and Gwenhwyfar, The Pendragon pivots around the struggle between morality, loyalty, and love.
The production will feature authentic historical costumes all designed and built by director Jeff Harris as well as dynamic fight choreography, created by David Blixt. Playwright Matthew Sauer frames the story within the mindset of Riddlemark's mission: to bring the experience of classical theatre to a contemporary audience. Written in Modern English, The Pendragon breathes new life into the celebrated tale of Sir Arthur and his legions.
Matthew Sauer is a founding member of the Riddlemark Theatre Company and is also a member of the Dramatist Guild of America. A B.A. graduate of Northern Illinois University's School of Theatre and Dance, his love for Shakespearean theatre has stemmed from performing such roles as Pistol in Henry V, Orlando in As You Like It, and various roles in Titus Andronicus and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
