Shandong makes one third of China's heavy trucks

Heavy duty truck production in east China's Shandong province now accounts for more than 30 percent of the country's total heavy truck output, Xinhua reported.

"As Shandong's auto industry has been showing a steady growth, the heavy truck segment is becoming a brighter star of the market," said Wei Xueqin, secretary-general of Shandong Association of Automobile Manufacturers (SAMA) at a heavy truck and auto parts exhibition on Wednesday.

Automobile industry is the mainstay industry of Shandong province, home to around 750 car-making and auto-parts enterprises. Industry-wide sales in the first seven months of this year were valued at 150 billion ($21.9 bn), up 35 percent year on year; the profit margin from the auto industry was 7.5 billion yuan, up 20.5 percent.

A total of 558,000 complete vehicles made in Shandong were sold in the seven-month period, up 28 percent from a year earlier.
