Find out ways you can help your suburban neighbors in need by giving from your garden, the store and by volunteering with local organizations at the Daily Herald’s fifth annual Giving Garden Day on Sunday, Sept. 9 in the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden of the Chicago Botanic Garden.

The Daily Herald Giving Garden Program encourages people to donate home-grown or purchased produced to local food pantries.

"Ask the Pros" during vegetable gardening demonstrations and talks held throughout the day. View educational displays on kitchen gardens, beginning vegetable gardening, composting for healthy soils and hunger issues. Meet students from the Chicago Botanic Garden's Green Youth Farm program.

Enjoy family-friendly activities, such as "Eating a Rainbow," and take home a Green Deer Tongue lettuce plant and other giveaways from exhibitors. Buy a raffle ticket or make a donation to help the hungry and spin the "Veggie Whirl" game for a prize. -- www.chicagobotanic.org
