Opera Grand Rapids Presents ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’

In a beautiful Mexican village, Antonio, the organ grinder, has a somewhat obsessive attachment to his pet monkey. One day the monkey runs away and the whole town searches for him. The monkey is soon discovered hiding in a tree with a whole band of monkeys who have snatched all of Pedrito's (the sombrero maker) colorful hats. Pedrito demands the return of his hats, but the mokeys merely mimic his efforts. Realizing this, Pedrito cleverly devises a scheme to retrieve the stolen sombreros from the tree. (For ages 8 and up.)

Second Act Opera Company

An educational arm of Opera Grand Rapids, Second Act Opera is a group of regional singers who travel to schools, afterschool programs, churches, clubs and corporate events to perform opera in the West Michigan community.

Second Act is available for bookings throughout the year, and can format a program to meet your organization's needs. Currently Second Act has two children's progams available, the Christmas presentation Amahl and the Night Visitors and Monkey See, Monkey Do. Second Act also frequently performs arias and operatic selections for clubs, corporations and organizations.

Monkey See, Monkey Do is a children's opera that can come to you! Opera Grand Rapids' Second Act Opera has designed this program to work especially well in school situations, providing four full days of interactive, fun curriculum for your students.

Students will learn how to make an opera, including set design, theater etiquette, opera as an art form and much more. Students will learn through a hands-on process and then see the fruits of their labor and studies on performance day as their sets and props come to life. -- www.operagr.com
