Long Beach Orchestra Unveils Classical Music Journey

The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra (LBSO) has unveiled its 2007–2008 season of beloved classical music and fun-filled pops picnics and invites the audience to enjoy 11 great “musical journeys” with the orchestra.

You’re invited to go away with the LBSO. No packing. No passport…just a comfortable seat, a chance to close your eyes with your family and friends and forget the freeway and remember for awhile how effortless life can be. Patrons at next season’s Classics series concerts will experience six incredible nights of well-known classics and international soloists, all performed by an orchestra of world-class professional musicians, conducted by Music Director Enrique Arturo Diemecke. Highlights of the season will be musical journeys to the British Isles, Italy and America that include Orff’s Carmina Burana, Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony.

The Symphony POPS! feature jazz guitar legend John Pizzarelli, former Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski conducting a dazzling musical circus called Cirque du Symphonie and the incomparable voices of Musical Theatre West in The Music Man. The Classics season’s acclaimed guest artists include pianists Jeffrey Swann and Alessio Bax, LBSO Concertmaster Roger Wilkie, LBSO Piccolo Diane Alancraig, LBSO Contrabassoon Leslie Lashinsky, and LBSO Principal Second Violin Katia Popov. Also featured next season is the exciting return engagement of Percussion Soloist Colin Currie, who will perform Jennifer Higdon’s Concerto for Percussion.
