New Show Planned For Nürnberg 07

The good news is that Cape Town Opera has been invited back to Nürnberg next year. The even better news is that it won't be for a third "Show Boat" but for something entirely different.

This time Michael Williams, GM of CTO, has been asked to stage a new South African work which will show to best advantage the wonderful voices and personalities of the singers who have found their way into the hearts of the citizens of Nürnberg after two successful summer seasons.

Mr Williams had hardly touched home base after the company's recent tour to Germany for "Show Boat" and France for "Treemonisha" and the gala concert, before he suddenly had a brainwave about what to put together for Nürnberg in 2007.

"It's top secret right now as we are still in the discussion stage with our friends in Nürnberg," he said. "It will be a musical, using existing music, with spoken dialogue. The plot will be about four real people telling their stories. The idea came to me in a flash. I found the inspiration right under my nose!"

He was delighted that "Show Boat" second time around had been even better than the first season.
"The performances got slicker, more energetic as the cast got things down to a fine art. We had long standing ovations, good reviews and the shows played to an 88 per cent capacity."

There is also a possibility that "Show Boat" will go to Germany in the winter of 2007. Munich and Mannheim are both interested in staging two-week seasons in these cities.

The "Show Boat" show rolls on. And on.
