Six members of Cape Town Opera's Vocal Ensemble have gone to Sweden for two and a half months to participate as chorus members of the NorrlandsOperan production of The Flying Dutchman.
CTO's former chorus master, Peter Valentovic will be the assistant conductor on the production which will open sometime in March next year.
According to CTO's General Manager, Michael Williams, the visit to Sweden is a great opportunity for our singers to travel abroad and to take part in a new production.
"Apart from the financial benefits for each of the singers, it's a great example of South Africa exporting voices to Europe."Â
Sweden is now becoming home from home for our singers as CTO have undertaken three opera tours to Umea, in conjunction with NorrlandsOperan. Last year the company toured successfully with "Show Boat"Â and this year in April and May with Dvorak's "Rusalka"Â and most recently CTO staged a season of "Porgy and Bess"Â in October in both Umea and Kiruna.
