It is with great pride and celebration that Centaur Theatre Company congratulates Michel Perron, who was awarded at yesterday’s “Les Masques” Gala. The Académie Québecoise du théâtre honored Michel Perron as BEST MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE for his interpretation of Gabriel in Centaur’s 2006 production of Michel Tremblay’s Assorted Candies translated by Linda Gaboriau.

Centaur theatre was also nominated for BEST ENGLISH-LANGUAGE PRODUCTION for Assorted Candies and Trying; while Leni Parker was nominated as BEST FEMALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE for her interpretation of Albertine in Assorted Candies; and Linda Gaboriau for BEST TRANSLATION OR ADAPTATION, also for Assorted Candies. Congratulations to all the nominees!
In his acceptance speech, the emotional Michel Perron, warmly thanked Gordon McCall, Artistic and Executive Director of Centaur Theatre Company and the entire team at Centaur for “welcoming him year after year and taking such good care of him”. He also thanked Michel Tremblay for such a beautiful play, Linda Gaboriau for her phenomenal translation and director Serge Denoncourt for bringing so much authenticity to the play and teaching him so much. He dedicated his award to the entire company of Assorted Candies, which also includes Lally Cadeau, Holly Gauthier-Frankel, Gordon McCall, Leni Parker, Donald Pilon and Clare Schapiro and production team: John C. Dinning, Luc Prairie, Kirsti Bruce and Vincent Absi.

Last season’s Assorted Candies is an unforgettable family drama based on Tremblay’s book of short stories. This is the charming, bittersweet story of six-year-old Michel and his home under the dining room table. From his unique view at the bottom of his world, he sees everything from the knees down but hears everything from the heart up; all the stories, arguments, gossip, philosophy, jokes and wisdom that spill from the lives of the five women and one man who are the seminal influences in his young life. Once again, Michel Tremblay takes us to Montreal’s Plateau and into the world of Nana (For The Pleasure of Seeing Her Again) and the memorable characters and defining moments and rituals at the centre of his young universe.

Known for his sense of humour and his love of life, Michel Perron has appeared in over 40 stage productions. Centaur audiences will also fondly remember Michel as Friar Lawrence in last season’s Romeo & Juliet; Paquette in Condoville, Gino in Mambo Italiano among many others. A native of Richmond, Quebec, he trained at Dawson College in the Professional theatre program from 1980 to 1983 where he discovered his calling in life and developed a serious passion for theatre. That passion has grown through the years and has come to include cabarets, musicals, 55 films, 10 television series, radio and TV ads, dubbing, and original voice animation.

This September 19th, Michel Perron will star in “IN THE SPOTLIGHT”, a once-in-a-life time event for the benefit of the Centaur Theatre Company. Together on stage in an intimate conversation hosted by Centaur’s Artistic Director Gordon McCall, Michel Perron and celebrated actors Rosemary Dunsmore and Albert Millaire will share their thoughts about life in the spotlight. -- www.centaurtheatre.com
