With the help of "borrowed" painkillers and a fairly constant flow of vodka, he finished a run of MEDEA THE MUSICAL then went to the hospital to find he had bone cancer [Multiple Myeloma]. Within a week, Jeffrey was strapped down in the I.C.U. His friends and family were told that he most likely wouldn't make it out alive. Wrong!
While his condition is deemed technically "terminal," he's back onstage for a LIMITED ENGAGEMENT of his "very nearly solo show," SHARK BITES. Currently in remission, Mr. Hartgraves (along with a few of his friends) will star in the auto-biopic piece SHARK BITES, which humorously examines how fear can be - and has been - a motivating factor in his, and everyone's, life.
SHARK BITES isn't about cancer, but it doesn't shy away from the painful moments that touch us all. From doing gay stand up comedy in Arizona during the early '80s, to observations on fear and loathing in the oncology clinic, SHARK BITES is filled with personal humiliations and universal insights. BITES leads the audience through the highs and lows of one man's unique life experience.
Through the urging of his friends and an Individual Artist Cash Grant from Theatre Bay Area to finish and produce SHARK BITES, he is back onstage for this very limited run. Time is of the essence as there is no guarantee that Mr. Hartgraves will be physically able to perform in encore presentations. Featuring the talents of: David Bicha, P.A. Cooley, T.J. Lee, davidmahr, 'Drew Todd. Directed by Libby O'Connell. -- www.therhino.org
