One of the great folk entertainers of the 70's, Richard Digance is to make a welcome return to Ilfracombe, North Devon Theatres as part of the closing week of the Landmark's 2007 summer season, on Wednesday 12th September 2007, at 8.15pm.
Richard Digance's evergreen career has been acknowledged through numerous awards within both the music and entertainment industries, from a BAFTA Nomination as a television entertainer to a Gold Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in 2003 along with Midge Ure and Sir Cliff Richard. He has supported Steve Martin in the USA and Robin Williams at the London Palladium and is included in the Virgin Anthology of Songwriters for his important contribution to British comedy songwriting.
Whilst others have come and gone Richard has continued to perform his unique shows of songs, rhymes and stories in a way that has been admired by the industry and the public alike. His one man shows have taken him around the world, most recently to the Dubai Comedy Festival and his writing skills have resulted in numerous book, plays and filmscripts.
But it's on stage Richard is most comfortable, giving two hours of original entertainment with just a guitar. There are no support acts or gimmicks, just one man with a treasure-chest of stories that have been collected through thirty years that began as a BBC comedy writer to modern times as a regular Countdown contributor.
He remains one of the most respected and evergreen entertainers Britain has produced, never being in or out of fashion, although The Sunday People voted him one of the Magnificent Seven of Comedy alongside Tommy Cooper and Bob Monkhouse. -- www.northdevontheatres.org.uk
