I could hardly believe what I was hearing:

“This is embarrassing. I went and lost to a Trainer who didn’t have a single Gym Badge.” That’s what Gym Leader Roark of Oreburgh City said to me after Firestar won the battle against his Pokémon. I thought he’d be tougher to battle. I really thought he would. Maybe Firestar is just so much stronger than I imagined.

“You were strong, and I was weak,” he said as he gave me the Official Pokémon League Coal Badge. My first badge! This totally opens the door to everything for me. I can go see what that GTS is all about and get a new Pokétch application. Plus, having a badge earns me a little respect among Pokémon Trainers.

Eterna City is the next place with a Gym that gives away badges, but I need a bicycle to get there. How am I going to find one of those?

I decided to go back to Jubilife City to get my Pokétch application from the president of the Pokétch Company. He gave me a Memo Pad application, which lets me write quick notes right on my Pokétch screen.

While I was at The Pokétch Company, there was a reporter there doing interviews for Jubilife TV! She wanted to know if I wanted to get interviewed. Would I? That’s like a dream come true! She asked me which Pokétch application I used the most and what I thought about it. Then she said she’d feature the interview on an upcoming TV programme! How cool is that?

Now that I had a badge, I could enter the Global Trade Station. The GTS was a little like the Union Room in the Pokémon Centre, but instead of connecting my DS wirelessly to nearby Trainers, I could connect my DS to the Internet and trade with Trainers around the world.

At the GTS, all I need to do is leave a Pokémon here to trade and request which Pokémon I want in return. When I come back to the GTS, I should have the Pokémon I asked for So, I put up for trade a Shinx that I caught and renamed Katzap, and I asked for a Kricketot in return because I think Bug-type Pokémon are pretty cool. I can’t wait to come back and see if someone traded me a Kricketot.

If I wanted to trade someone right away, I could perform a search for the type of Pokémon I wanted. To try it out, I requested a Glameow, and within seconds, I had seven trade partners waiting for me! The only thing was, I had to trade them a Pokémon they wanted. I couldn’t just trade them any of my Pokémon. So I didn’t find a match this time, but next time, after I catch even more Pokémon, I’ll be a better trading partner.

After I left the GTS, I took part in a battle on the outskirts of the city. My battle impressed someone from Jubilife TV. It’s like these people are everywhere in this town.

“I’d like you to have something for letting me see that smashing battle!” said the representative from Jubilife TV. He gave me this thing called a Fashion Case. Inside the Fashion Case were a variety of cool accessories and backdrops. He said that with the Fashion Case I can dress up my Pokémon and “watch their appeal grow.” Right now the TV station is letting people inside to dress up their Pokémon, he said. They’re giving away prizes, too.

Like I needed yet another reason to visit the TV station! I knew I needed to head to Eterna City for the next badge, but I couldn’t help myself. I had to stop in and see Jubilife TV.

I was told that the fitting room for dressing up my Pokémon was on the second floor. There, they display photos from Trainers whom I’ve been mixing records with. When I stopped at the dressing room, a man said, “Your Pokémon are so very charming. How enchanting! They’re so charming, I will even hang a picture of one right beside me. I’m only doing this especially for you.” Was this guy serious? I’ll bet he says that to all the Trainers.

Anyway, I went into the dressing room and opened the fashion case. Inside the case were several accessories for my Pokémon. I just needed to drag the items from the case to my Firestar. There were some puffs, so I put them on his tail, feet and head. I put a white moustache and bird feathers on him, too. I could even change the background for the picture the guy I talked to wanted to take of Firestar. I chose a background to make it look like Firestar was in the clouds.

Firestar looked silly. But it was fun. I can’t wait to find out what other accessories I can find for my Fashion Case.
