That's right, eBay seller Buy.com (with just plain buy as the eBay handle) has the 16GB WiFi only 2013 edition of the Nexus 7 available (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360777877185) for $199.00. The current price in the Play Store is $229.99. This eBay seller has its own website (at Rakuten.com, redirected from its former domain and site name, Buy.com) and thus charges sales tax in Calif., Conn., Ill., Maine, New York, Tennessee, and Washington.
This is the recently introduced 2013 edition of the Nexus 7. It has many hardware upgrades, including a new rear-facing 5-megapixel camera, a faster processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core running at 1.5GHz), a display upgrade from the 2012 model's 1280 x 800 7-inch display to a 1920 x 1200 FHD 7-inch display. To clarify, this is the 16GB WiFi only model.
Other specifications include 2GB DDR3 RAM, Adreno 320, 400MHz graphics, dimensions of 7.87 inches x 4.49 inches x 0.34 inches and a weight of 0.64 pounds. Free Economy Shipping is available and the deal says 557 have been sold (at the time of this writing) with a limited quantity available.
We usually tell folks to check out the ratings for eBay sellers before purchasing, and buy's eBay seller rating is impressive. It has 2,672,564 feedback ratings with a 99.6 percent positive feedback average. That is extremely high, especially when one considers that a) it's impossible to keep a 100 percent positive rating with this many deals, b) the number of feedback ratings -- and remember, not everyone posts feedback -- numbers in the millions.
To be clear, this seller is not affiliated with BestBuy.com, but rather was formerly branded as Buy.com before being purchased by Japan-based Rakuten. A formal rebranding to Rakuten.com shopping did not occur until earlier this year.
One thing of concern: There have been reports of buyers seeing credit cards that were used on Rakuten.com used fraudulently for other purchases. One user even said that the card in question had not been used for other purchases except at Rakuten.com.
However, this deal, being at eBay, is protected by the fact that you would be using PayPal to pay.
