The Debate is ON Again as McCain Agrees to Attend

Earlier this week, John McCain said he was suspending his campaign, and asked Demmocratic rival Barack Obama if they could delay tonight's previously scheduled debate, the first in their series of debates.

Obama said they should meet, and that "It's going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once." On Friday morning, after the proposed bailout plan fell apart on Thursday night, McCain agreed to meet.

Obama had always planned to attend the debate and had indicated he would turn it into a town hall meeting if McCain was a no-show.

An AP-Knowledge Networks poll release just prior to McCain's announcement showed the public overwhelmingly wanted the candidates to debate, 60% - 22%, 18% undecided.

The debate is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM EDT.
