A Stranger Saves a Woman in Foreclosure

It's no secret that foreclosures are up across the United States. But when Tracy Orr's house went up for auction this Saturday, an angel swept in to save her house from foreclosure.

Bad sub-prime mortgages, and yes, some carelessness on the part of homeowners has led to both an obvious (to most) recession and a huge spike in foreclosures --- and thus auctions. When Orr's house went up for auction, she couldn't stop crying as she witnessed it.

But she didn't know she had Marilyn Mock as a savior.

When Mock asked Orr if she was at the auction to buy, Orr burst into tears, pointing at a picture in the brochure and telling Mock "That's my house."

When Orr's house, #73 came up for bid, Mock began bidding, but also kept asking Orr if the house was worth the money. Mock said:

"I just kept asking her if [her home] was worth it, and she just kept crying. She probably thought I was crazy, 'Why does this woman keep asking me that?' "

Orr might even have become angry, at least internally. But that anger would vanish as Mock spoke to her afterwards. Orr said:

"She said, 'I did this for you. I'm doing this for you. When it was all done, I was just in shock. I thought maybe her and her husband do these types of things to buy them and turn them. She said, 'No, you just look like you needed a friend.' "

Mock will let Orr live in the house and make payments to her, rather than to a bank.

Orr got into her fix after she lost her job a month after taking out the loan when she says the U.S. Post Office fired her over a DWI while off-duty. A wrongful termination lawsuit is pending.

She fell behind on her home payments and eventually reached foreclosure.

Why was Mock so generous?

"She was just so sad. You put yourself in their situation and you realize you just got to do something. If it was you, you'd want somebody to stop and help you."
