Effigy of Obama Found on Second College Campus

For the second time in little more than a month, an effigy of Barack Obama has been found at a college campus. The first incident took place at George Fox University in Oregon, ironically a Christian campus. George Fox was the founder of the Quakers.

This incident took place at the University of Kentucky (UK). UK spokesman Carl Nathe said the effigy was found Wednesday morning in a highly-traffickeded area between a classroom building and parking garage.

The President of the university, Lee T. Todd Jr., made the following statement:

Unfortunately, this morning an effigy of Senator Barack Obama was discovered hanging in a tree on campus. I am personally offended and deeply embarrassed by this disgusting episode. This is not reasonable political expression; it is just malicious. And it is unacceptable.

On behalf of the University of Kentucky I apologize to Senator Obama and his family. I will personally assure them that this is not who we are as a University or as a state.

At the same time, the university announced a forum to discuss the effigy incident, which was to take place at 7 PM EDT.

Kentucky governor Gov. Steve Beshear said of the effigy incident:

"This was not political speech. It was simply hate."

John Johnson, executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights said the following:

"It's astonishing that somebody would do that at this day and time. You would hope that our country has progressed further than that."

With the astounding number of hate crimes, and even neo-Nazis plotting against Obama, I'd say: he's not looking at the same country I am.
