At least, that's what some neighbors of the home which hung the effigy of Palin (and McCain) have tried to do. They have tried to cover up the display with sheets.
Chad Michael Morrisette is a professional window display designer who set up the effigy of Palin in front of his house. He set up the Palin effigy three weeks ago, saying he wanted to add politics to Halloween this year due to the presidential election four days later.
The effigy hasn't been popular to some, though most of the neighbors either chuckled or applauded the display at first, Morrisette said.
It's not even supporters of the GOP who have blasted the display of the effigy. On Monday, MSNBC television host Keith Olbermann named Morrisette "today's worst person in the world," a daily feature on his show.
"This is not the spirit of Halloween, sir. It is the spirit of violence."
Still, I have to admit that hanging Barack Obama in effigy, I would tend to say, is more hateful, as the image of a noose and an African-American obviously invokes images of the Ku Klux Klan and slavery.
On the other hand, the effigy did prompt a visit from the Secret Service. Deputy Special Agent in Charge Wayne Williams said:
"We're not treating it as a threat. Halloween presents some interesting challenges for us with the masks and costumes."
I'm sure Morrisette didn't expect such publicity when he created the display.
He has told the mayor he will have it down by 8 AM Saturday, the day after Halloween.
