Carl Reiner himself didn't appear in the iconic "date movie" When Harry Met Sally, but it was directed by his son, Rob, and his wife Estelle appeared in a brief cameo. She brought down the house with one line, one of the better known lines in cinema.
As Estelle Reiner's character observed Meg Ryan's character faking an orgasm at a nearby table, she told the waiter who was asking for her order: "I'll have what she's having."
Estelle Reiner died on Oct. 25th at the age of 94.
That one line reinvigorated her career, and she leveraged it to embark, in her mid-sixties no less, on a career as a jazz singer, recording and performing until last year.
While Estelle was relatively unknown until late in life, her husband Carl, and son Rob, were not. Carl Reiner is a well-known actor, producer and director.
Meanwhile, Rob Reiner appeared in All in the Family as the "Meathead," Michael Stivic, as well as following up with a successful career as a director.
And let's not forget the classic "Dick Van Dyke" show. Carl Reiner based the character of Laura Petrie on Estelle Reiner.
All these connections with great TV and great movies. Without Carl Reiner's wife Estelle, where would we be?
