12-Year-Old Shot Dead While Trick-or-Treating

Both sides can argue over gun rights as much as they want, but it should be clear: some people just shouldn't be allowed to own guns, like this person, Quentin Patrick, 22, from Sumter, South Carolina.

At the very least you should ask, "What has this country become?"

The unnamed family were walking up to the porch of the house at about 8:30 PM local time. The shots came from inside the house. While the 12-year-old later died at a hospital, his father and brother were wounded.

Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson said:

"The investigation is continuing into what has been a very tragic evening. Our sorrow and sympathy goes out to this family."

Patrick was charged with murder and three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill. He did not live at the residence where the shooting happened and it was unclear why he was there.

While we could guess at an obvious substance-abuse related reason for the incident, there is no motive indicated, as yet.

He is a convicted felon and as such, it was illegal for him to possess any firearm.
