Pennsylvania has been a highly desired prize, with John McCain making a last-ditch effort over the last few weeks to win the state, but it appears to have been to no avail. The projection from NBC News is that Barack Obama has taken the state, which both parties had targeted as critical to winning the race. The partial results of the PA elections show that Barack Obama is the projected winner in Pennsylvania.

ABC News echoed the NBC projection, saying also that Obama is the winner in Pennsylvania.

Another state besides Pennsylvania which McCain had coveted was New Hampshire. ABC News projects that Obama will win that state as well. McCain campaigned in that state also in the closing days.

On Monday, McCain said:

"We're going to win Pennsylvania tomorrow and I'm going to be the President of the United States. Pennsylvania will do it, and Pittsburgh will be the important area."

Unfortunately that turned out to not be the case, as Pennsylvania's 21 electoral votes are in Obama's chest now.

It's an important win, as McCain felt that turning Pennsylvania red was a key to his victory. Obviously more to come.

These results are the preliminary exit polls from the 2008 presidential elections for the state of Pennsylvania. They will change throughout the evening, so if you have an update, please post the updated results for the state of Pennsylvania in the comments area.
