The Pasadena Marathon had been scheduled to start at 6:30 AM PST on Sunday, but organizers cancelled the race, citing air quality issues. The statement on the race website said:
For the health and safety of all participants, race organizer Pasadena Forward has announced it will cancel the Kaiser Permanente Pasadena Marathon scheduled to run today, Sunday, November 16, as a result of the significant wildfires in the Los Angeles area, the many evacuations, and the resulting unsafe air quality caused by the fires.
It all makes sense on many levels. Despite writing about it yesterday, I felt it was strange to hold such an event in light of all the ongoing tragedy. And that's without even considering the obvious runners' health issues.
It is possible the Pasadena Marathon will be held later this year. The same statement on their site said the organizers will meet Monday to discuss "next steps."
The statement also said all registered runners will be notified of any updates via email.
