Saturday on the weekly Democratic radio address, Barack Obama outlined his economic plan, and how he plans to add 2.5 million jobs by 2011.

The idea, and it's one that's been used before, would be to repair the infrastructure of the U.S. while at the same time creating alternative energy sources and more efficient cars.

This same infrastructure repair technique was used by Japan during its last (not current, which was just acknowledged as beginning) recession. To be honest, many roads, bridges and more are badly in need of repair in the U.S.

Obama said:

"These aren't just steps to pull ourselves out of this immediate crisis. These are the long-term investments in our economic future that have been ignored for far too long. We'll put people back to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, modernizing schools that are failing our children, and building wind farms and solar panels."

Obama added:

"There are no quick or easy fixes to this crisis, which has been many years in the making, and it's likely to get worse before it gets better."

Meanhwile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that Democrats would:

"continue pushing for aggressive but necessary measures. Part of that is passing a substantial economic recovery package, like the one President-elect Obama discussed this morning, that creates good-paying jobs here in America and stabilizes a volatile market. We will soon finally have a leader and partner in the White House who recognizes the urgency with which we must turn around our economy, and I look forward to working with him and the new Congress to do so."

Hmmm. Slap at Bush and Paulson, much?
