Edna Parker, World's Oldest Person, Dies at 115

Edna Parker, the world's oldest person, died on Wednesday at the age of 115, at 5:19 PM Wednesday at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville, according to her obituary.

Edna Parker's death makes Portugal's Maria de Jesus the oldest living person in the world. Parker became the oldest living person in August 2007 when Yone Minagawa of Japan died at the age of 114.

The record for longevity is held by Jeanne Calmet of France, who lived to the age of 122 years and 164 days. Calmet died Aug. 4, 1997.

Parker had been a widow for nearly 70 years; her husband, Earl Parker, died in 1939 of a heart attack. She lived alone in their farmhouse until age 100. At that time she moved into a son's home and later to the Heritage House Convalescent Center.

Parker never smoke or drank. She had five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She also outlived her two sons, Clifford and Earl Jr.
