Every time you see such an incident on TV (granted, it's TV), the police officer escorts the couple in active labor to the hospital. In this case, he gave them a ticket.
Jennifer and John Davis were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic during the November 18 rush hour, on their way to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Contractions were just three minutes apart, so John started driving in the breakdown lane.
Two troopers allowed them to use the lane, but a third pulled them over and made them wait while he ticketed another driver. He then handed John an envelope and told him to expect something in the mail.
They received it, a $100 ticket.
Not only that, he acted as though he didn't believe them. Jennifer said:
"He came over and said 'What's under your jacket?' and so I said 'My belly.' And he waited and was just kind of looking at me, so I took that to assume he wanted me to open up my jacket. And I did."
Someone needs to get some sensitivity training. The couple plans to fight the ticket in court, as they should. I don't believe this is worth a lawsuit, but the officer should at least apologize to them.
Oh, and the baby, Charlotte Jane Davis, is just fine.
