Sam Bradford Wins the Heisman Trophy

Sam Bradford of Oklahoma is the 2008 Heisman Trophy award winner.

The Heisman Trophy winner is, more often than not, a QB. It's no surprise, as QB is the single most important role on the football playing field. In 2008, it was a 3-way QB race: Bradford vs. last year's winner, Tim Tebow of Florida, and Colt McCoy of Houston.

Bradford, who leads the nation in touchdown passes with 48 against only 4 interceptions, received 1,726 points. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was second with 1,604 and Tebow — who received the most first-place votes — was third with 1,575 points.

Strangely, Tebow had the most first-place votes. Bradford got 300 first-place votes, McCoy 266 and Tebow 309.

In addition to being the Heisman Trophy winner, Bradford may be the highest pick of the three in the NFL draft, assuming he enters the draft this year.

Bradford also is extremely accurate and has good arm strength, with a quick release.

Colt McCoy has questionable arm strength, though has produced well in college, and has the intangibles necessary for an NFL QB.

Tebow has accuracy and arm strength questions, and plays in an unusual offense. The last QB taken as a first overall pick from an unusual offense, the 49ers Alex Smith, appears to be a bust.

Tebow and Bradford will battle it out in the BCS Championship game, in an odd matchup of Heisman Trophy winners.
