The season has just ended, the playoff picture has become clear, and so has the New York Jets' coaching situation. After three seasons, Eric Mangini has been fired.

Eric Mangini, 37, was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets, including 0-1 in the playoffs. The straw that broke the camel's back was Sunday's loss to Miami, leaving NY with a 9-7 record.

However, even with a win, the Jets needed a loss by New England or Baltimore, and neither of those happened.

Eric Mangini's fate wasn't helped by some pre-season moves and the question of whether or not he would be fired arose as the Jets stumbled in the last five games (1-4).

Before the season, the Jets traded for Brett Favre, and discarded QB Chad Pennington. And those same Miami Dolphins picked Pennington off the waiver wire, from whence he led them to the AFC East title.

Romeo Crennel was also fired from Cleveland, and rumors have already begun over Mangini possibly taking that post. Bill Cowher has already turned down that post, and Eric Mangini has ties to the area: Cleveland Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro is his brother-in-law.
