Many communities have tree recycling programs nowadays. You simply have to put the tree out, or take it to a drop-off site. Well, you don't just put the tree out.
Naturally, prior to tree recycling, you have to remove any ornaments, decorations, lights, tree stands, and the like from the tree. And, you should check with your local agency to determine just when recycling will occur in your area.
It's not always the week right after Christmas, by the way.
If you're not sure who to check with for tree recycling times, call your local recycling or garbage company. They should either be involved directly, or know who to call.
Still stuck? Try Earth911.com's tree recycling widget (on this page). Naturally it doesn't have all areas of the U.S. covered, but they say they have 4,000 areas targeted.
And stay green, even if your tree does not!
