Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Sarah Palin who cast an unexpected light on her mother's vice-presidential run when it was announced she was pregnant, out-of-wedlock, has given birth to a boy. Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was born on Sunday.
The name Tripp certainly fits in with the naming convention of Sarah Palin; her kid's names are Track, 19; Bristol, 18; Willow, 14; Piper, 7; and Trig, 7 months. Apparently Bristol Palin wanted to keep the same sort of naming scheme.
Levi Johnston, an apprentice electrician and a former hockey player at Wasilla High School, is the baby's father. Although the families have announced that he and Bristol Palin intend to be wed, they still have not done so. It's unclear why not, although they have said they plan to marry in 2009. That makes the baby technically illegitimate, and you wouldn't expect the Palin family to approve of that.
Johnston's mother, Sherry Johnston, was recently arrested on drug charges.
Colleen Jones, who is governor Palin's aunt, told People:
"We think it's wonderful. The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."
