Dan Reeves Interviewing with 49ers for O.C. Position

It sounds like a dream, or maybe a nightmare. Why would Dan Reeves, a 4-time Super Bowl head coach, want to be a "mere" offensive coordinator for any team, much less the San Francisco 49ers?

Reeves, who turned 65 on Monday, has been out of the NFL since 2003.

Mike Singletary has a singular vision for the offense he wants for the 49ers; he wants an offense that runs, runs, runs, and passes as a last resort. I've never been a great fan of Dan Reeves, but those more familiar with him say he's old school, and run-oriented.

However, as I said, why would Dan Reeves, a long-time head coach, want to be an offensive coordinator. Does this signal that the 49ers are having difficulty finding an offensive coordinator?

Their first choice, Scott Linehan, fired as head coach of the St. Louis Rams this season, turned them down.

Besides Dan Reeves, the 49ers on Friday also interviewed Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson. This brings the total number of interviewees for the O.C. position to 7: Linehan, Jeff Jagodzinski, Linehan, Rick Dennison, Rob Chudzinski and Clyde Christensen as well as Jackson and Reeves.

If nothing else, Friday's interview with Dan Reeves made the whole 49er O.C. chase a lot more interesting.
