Super Bowl XLIII, A Blowout or an Upset?

The 2009 Super Bowl, XLIII (43 for those not comfortable with Roman numerals), start time at 6 PM EST. Many think it will be a complete blowout, with the Pittsburgh Steelers manhandling the Arizona Cardinals. But instead, are the Cardinals a team of destiny?

First of all, don't get too excited about the Super Bowl 2009 start time being at 6:00 PM EST (3:00 PM PST). It's not really. That's when all the pageantry of the coin toss, the National Anthem and all that other to-do starts.

In reality, the Super Bowl 2009 start time is set for 6:20 PM EST. Even that is tentative; it assumes all goes well and on time. Much like the Academy Awards, it's almost never so.

Last year was supposed to be the year of the undefeated Patriots. It didn't work out that way. The New York Giants came in as underdogs and won the game, coming from behind in the last quarter.

Similarly, the Cardinals have been the underdog all post-season. While they may have had a great break by avoiding the Carolina Panthers, who seemed to fold in the post-season, they've played well. Perhaps this is the year of yet another upset.

If not, Pittsburgh will become the first six-time Super Bowl champ, distancing itself from the 49ers and Cowboys.

Just mark that time: 6:20 PM EST. And let's hope for a good game, and not a blowout.
