Yes, Serena Williams literally slammed Dinara Safina, winning the first leg of the 2009 Grand Slam of Tennis, with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

The Australian Open, while the most unknown of the big 4 Grand Slam events, still opens the Grand Slam tournament season, so to speak, in tennis (the other events are the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open).

By defeating Safina, Serena Williams, 27, earns her 10th Grand Slam title and fourth Australian Open as well as the current world's No. 1 ranking.

While she is now ranked number one in women's tennis, Serena Williams has a long way to go in terms of Grand Slam singles wins to achieve number one status there. Margaret Court Smith had 24 and Steffi Graf 22.

Still, she acknowledged the company she is in:

"I idolized Steffi Graf growing up. Martina Navratilova was someone who was my role model. Now people are starting to talk about me, which is uber cool. I can't get my mind around it."

The match was completely lopsided; Williams bested Safina in 59 minutes. Safina was so overwhelmed that she apologized to the crowd for her performance.
