On President's Day, What Services are Available?

It's President's Day! But what services are available today? Are banks open on President's Day? Is there mail on President's Day? Is President's Day a federal holiday?

Yes, President's Day is that (sort of lame) holiday that combines Lincoln's and Washington's Birthdays into one, and which generally occurs on neither of their birthdays is in fact a federal holiday.

Sadly, Lincoln's birthday was never a federal holiday, and although the main president whose birthday is celebrated by this day is really Washington, most of the time Lincoln and even other presidents such as Kennedy are thrown in for good measure.

So, we've answered the question :"Is President's Day a federal holiday?" What about money and mail? Are banks open on President's Day?

So, are banks open on President's Day? In general, no. Most banks will be closed today.

Is there mail on President's Day? No, as a federal holiday there will be no mail.

State offices? That depends on your state.

And in reality, quite a few private businesses don't use this as a holiday either. However, stock markets are closed.

So, if you are lucky enough to have the day off, take it easy, watch some TV, but don't expect any mail and don't try going to the bank (except an ATM).
