Brad Van Pelt, NY Giants Great, Dead at 57

Brad Van Pelt, former great New York Giants linebacker, has died of an apparent heart attack at the age of 57.

Brad Van Pelt was a second-round draft choice out of Michigan State in 1973. He played 14 seasons in the NFL, 11 (73 - 83) with the Giants.

While with NY, Brad Van Pelt was selected to five Pro Bowls. He finished his career with 2 years with OAK and one with CLE.

Brad Van Pelt wore an unusual number for a LB, which usually get numbers in the 50s or 90s. He wore He wore number 10 in college wanted to wear it with the Giants as well.

NY decided to sneak 10 to Brad Van Pelt, calling him a kicker who also played LB (he was a backup kicker in college). The NFL never gave him grief, and he became a great NFL LB.

Brad Van Pelt's son, Bradlee, spent three seasons as a quarterback in the NFL with Denver and Houston.
