In this tough recession winnery a lottery would be a great "ticket" out (pun intended). Last night's Mega Millions multi-state jackpot reached a $212 million dollar level, and there is one winning ticket.
For those of you not from New Jersey, you can stop reading now. The Mega Millions lottery covers that state as well as Georgia, Virginia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas, Washington State and California. But the winning ticket was from Ocean County, NJ.
Here are the winning numbers, with millions riding on them: 26, 32, 35, 43, 52 and the Mega Ball was 10.
If the lucky winner chose to take the Mega Millions jackpot annually, he or she would earn about $8.1 million a year, before taxes, for the next 26 years as an annuity.
If instead the Mega Millions jackpot was taken as cash, that would be worth about $137 million before taxes.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $390 million, but that was shared by two winners in NJ and GA, on March 6, 2007.
