New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez is facing surgery on his hip, to repair his torn labrum, and will miss 6 - 9 weeks.

But after the season, Alex Rodriguez will face still another operation, according to reports. Naturally that assumes he can play the rest of the season. Dr. Marc Philippon will perform the initial procedure in Colorado. He noted that he's confident Rodriguez will be able to make it through the season.

Besides the torn labrum, Alex Rodriguez has an impingement, meaning bone is rubbing against bone. The above surgery will fix the labrum, while the post-season surgery will repair the bone deformity.

Alex Rodriguez is 33 and plays third base for the New York Yankees. Manager Joe Girardi said a platoon might be required to take Rodriguez' place.

"Cody (Ransom) is going to play (at third) a lot in spring training. We have Angel Berroa in camp, as well. Eventually, Alex is going to be back. Cody did some nice things for us last year."

Alex Rodriguez, who recently admitted to steroid use, is a career .306 hitter with 553 home runs and 1,606 RBIs. Rodriguez has also recorded 2,404 hits in 2,042 games.
