It's Selection Sunday 2009! In reality, it's come and the important part is gone. The NCAA Basketball Tournament Selection Show is over, and now we know the bracket.
The Big East college basketball conference took the lion's share of #1 seeds in the 2009 NCAA bracket, three out of four. Yep, 75% of the #1 seeds are Big East teams, with North Carolina, regular-season ACC champs, the only Selection Sunday #1 seed not from the Big East conference.
Louisville, Pittsburgh and Connecticut were the other #1 seeds.
Louisville is #1 in the Midwest Region, Connecticut in the West, Pittsburgh in the East, and North Carolina in the South.
Alabama St. and Morehead St. play the opening game to determine the actual final entrant in the NCAA bracket. I've constantly wondered, since as in many other sports, Selection Sunday amounts to putting in as many teams as possible, at this rate they should just put all Division One teams into the mix.
Yes, I am obviously kidding.
