Gonzaga (4) Ekes Out Victory Over W. Kentucky (12)

Now here's a near upset. Gonzaga, 4th ranked in the NCAA South Regional, eked out a victory over #12 W. Kentucky, 83 - 81, with only 0.9 seconds left.

Steffphon Pettigrew hit a tip-in for the 12th-seeded W. Kentucky Hilltoppers (25-9), tying it at 81 with 7.2 seconds left. this set up the miracle finish. Western Kentucky had scored seven straight points to tie the game at 81.

Freshman Demetri Goodson ran the length of the court and made a short, running bank shot with 0.9 seconds left. This pushed the Gonzaga team (28-5) into the South Region semifinals to play top-seeded North Carolina on Friday in Memphis, Tenn. The Tar Heels earlier defeated LSU 84-70.

Matt Bouldin led Gonzaga with 21 points, while four other Gonzaga players scored in double-digits.

Orlando Mendez-Valdez had 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, for the Hilltoppers, while A.J. Slaughter had 24.
