Binghamton Gunman Identified as Jiverly Voong

The gunman in the tragic Binghamton, New York immigration center shootings that took place earlier today has been identified: according to law enforcement officials, his name is Jiverly Voong.

According to the press conference, 14 people are dead, one of them the shooter, Jiverly Voong, while four people are in critical condition. Thirty-three additional people were rescued from the site.

While reports have leaked over the Jiverly Voong's name, authorities refused to give his name during the press conference, perhaps erring on the side of caution. MSNBC has a video report on their site. Basically cops are leaking the info, while the police chief is holding it back.

However, other reports have indicated that the gunman was carrying identification with the name of Jiverly Voong. Other reports note that the surname Voong may have been an alias. Linh Phat Voong was an alternate name used by the gunman, who is apparently of Vietnamese descent.

Jiverly Voong had backed his car up to the back door of the building to block any escape before he went around to the front door and started to execute people.

A motive has not been identified, but a report indicates that Jiverly Voong recently lost his job at IBM. IBM recently announced large U.S. job cuts, with the jobs being relocated overseas; this could be a possible reason for anger at immigrants.
