Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, was changed with DUI and murder in the death of Los Angeles rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others.
Andrew Thomas Gallo was charged with three counts of murder. He ran a red light in his minivan early Thursday and broadsided a car carrying Adenhart and three friends. He ran away from the incident on foot, but was later captured.
Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said:
"At the time of the crash, Mr. Gallo's blood-alcohol content is estimated to be almost three times the legal limit."
Gallo could receive almost 55 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges.
Adenhart pitched his first game of the season on the night of the accident, against the Oakland A's. On Friday night, the A's held their home opener, and a "missing man" formation ceremony was performed just before the game, alarming East Bay residents.
At the same time, the Angels planned a pregame ceremony to honor the Adenhart and his friends Courtney Stewart and Henry Pearson prior to their game with the Boston Red Sox.
