Melissa Huckaby, a Tracy Sunday school teacher and granddaughter of the pastor of the Clover Road Baptist Church, was arrested last weekend in the murder of Sandra Cantu. Now details on the killing are starting to emerge in the case.
Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested early Saturday morning (Friday night) and charged with Cantu's kidnapping and murder. She is in custody at the San Joaquin County Jail without bail. A suicide watch is in place.
As horrific as the murder and kidnapping already is, police have told local TV station CBS5 that they believe the murder took place in the Clover Road Baptist Church itself.
Despite this, there is still no known motive in the Sandra Cantu case.
Sandra Cantu's uncle, Joe Chavez, told Good Morning, America:
"We couldn't believe that, you know, a mother of a little girl that she used to play with was the one that killed her, allegedly."
At the same time, it's true that Melissa Huckaby has past convictions for petty theft, so as a parishioner of the church, Mary Brawley, said:
"Knowing that his granddaughter had a past history why did the pastor put her in the position to teach Sunday school? I'm blaming him. Doesn't he know that she's not fit to take care of kids?"

#1 Petty theft doesn't usually
Petty theft doesn't usually follow to murder - to blame a person for giving someone (with no violent history) a second chance is really just a grasp for answers to a horrific situation.
#2 Her having past convictions
Her having past convictions for petty theft has nothing to do with being able to teach a class of children.
#3 past convictions
agree.
#4 To blame a pastor of someone
To blame a pastor of someone elses crime is foolish and immature. I certainly wouldn't want to go to church with someone as judgemental as her. Obviously, her grandfather had forgiven her, just as christ himself.
