Mel, Robyn Gibson Divorce Settlement May Set a Record

We already wrote that Mel Gibson and wife Robyn Gibson are getting a divorce. We also wrote that they married 28 years ago, without a prenup agreement. This oversight (ah, love!) may result in a record divorce settlement.

Without a prenup, Robyn Gibson would be entitled, under California community property law, to half of everything Mel earned since they were married in 1980. According to reports, that would be close to $1 billion dollars.

Mel Gibson was a relative unknown in 1980.

So, we're talking a huge amount, $500 million, which would make other settlements for celebs look like nothing. Examples:

  • $168 million, 2006 divorce, Michael Jordan and Juanita
  • $150 million, 1994 divorce, Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey
  • $100 million, 1989 divorce, Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving

Wow, those guys look like pikers!

While only the vague "irreconcilable differences" was used as the reason in divorce papers, reports have been circulated of an affair between Mel Gibson and Oksana Kolesnikova.
