Tracy, CA expects thousands of visitors and residents to attend a memorial service for 8-year-old Sandra Cantu today.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, has been charged with murder, rape and kidnapping of in the case of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu of Tracy, who was found stuffed into a suitcase days after her disappearance.

About 2,600 mourners are expected to fill the gymnasium at Merrill West High School to pay tribute to Cantu. Another 500 people will be seated at an overflow room with video of the service and audio will also be played on loudspeakers at the Merrill West High School football field, which seats 7,000 people.

The Sandra Cantu memorial service is schedule for 1 PM PDT.

At the same time, the investigation continues, despite the arrest and charging of Melissa Huckaby.

Police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said:

"Until there's a conviction, the homicide investigation is active. If there is information that the district attorney wants us to find, we'll go look for that. If there's information that comes from other sources that we have to look into, that'll be taken care of also."

An interesting note: police are still looking into possible other victims of Huckaby.

And a final footnote. A second woman named Melissa Huckaby has the bad luck to live just 14 miles from Tracy, and has been threatened and harassed. An X-Files moment.
