Captain Richard Phillips, who was rescued from Somalian pirates last week, has finally been reunited with his family.
Ironically, the return of Captain Phillips was delayed somewhat when the destroyer U.S.S. Bainbridge had to detour to reach the site of a pirate attack on another U.S. ship, the Liberty Sun.
Captain Richards Phillips was taken hostage by four Somalian pirates when they boarded the Maersk Alabama. The crew later took back the ship, but Phillips was still a hostage until Navy SEAL snipers took out three pirates (the fourth had already surrendered).
On Friday, Phillips was returned to his family. The jet carrying Phillips touched down shortly before 4:30 PM EDT in Burlington, VT.
Philips was met by his wife Andrea, his daughter Mariah, mother Virgina, and son Danny. His wife said:
"Having Richard back safe is all my family and I have ever wanted. My prayers have been answered."
