Is This Miss Universe Australia Contestant Anorexic?

You decide. While she didn't win, Stephanie Naumoska, 19, competed in the Miss Universe Australia contest in Sydney (the winner goes to the Miss Universe finals), and drew attention not for her beauty, but for being, well, gaunt.

A criticism oft-leveled at models is being overly thin. Many of these beauty pageant contestants are models, after all.

Naumoska is 5'11" yet only weighs 108 pounds. Pageant director Deborah Miller said she has Macedonian heritage, accounting for her extreme thinness. Right.

She apparently Body Mass Index (BMI) of 15.1. Her BMI should be between 18.5 and 24.9 to fall into the 'average' category. By World Health Organisation (WHO) standards, she is malnourished.

At the same time, Naumoska denied reports she is either anorexic or bulimic, saying:

"I think it is very unfair that I have been criticised that I'm too skinny. I have never been anorexic or bulimic I don't throw up my meals after I eat them I don't starve myself, none of that. I eat six to eight healthy meals a day."

I would then ask: where the heck does it go?

Stephanie Naumoska was defeated in the final by 20-year-old television presenter and model Rachael Finch. Thankfully.
