The first swine flu case in Asia was confirmed on Friday, as a tourist from Mexico tested positive for swine flu in Hong Kong. The government moved quickly to track those exposed to the infected man and contain the potential spread of the disease.

In doing so, Hong Kong quarantined hundreds of hotel guests and workers. They also moved to track down those passengers who flew on the same plane as the confirmed swine flu case.

Official ordered a weeklong quarantine of some 200 guests and 100 staff at the Metropark Hotel. All of those quanantined were to be treated with the antiviral drug Tamiflu, which many doctors have said should not be given to people unless they were confirmed to have the swine flu.

The 25-year-old man who tested positive was isolated at a hospital and was in stable condition.

Furthermore, China suspended flights from Mexico to Shanghai. The man, who was not identified, flew from Mexico to Shanghai on AeroMexico flight AM 98, then on to Hong Kong on China Eastern Airlines flight MU 505.

Additionally, South Korea Saturday reported its first case of swine flu.
