Jack Kemp, Former Congressman and AFL QB, Dies

Jack Kemp, a former pro football quarterback, congressman and one-time vice-presidential nominee, has died at the age of 73.

Jack Kemp had announced in January 2009 that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He said he was undergoing tests but gave no other detail. The only details on his death so far were provided by his spokeswoman Bona Park and longtime friend and former campaign adviser Edwin J. Feulner who confirmed that Kemp died after a lengthy illness.

Jack Kemp, a former quarterback for the then-AFL Buffalo Bills, represented western New York for nine terms in Congress. He left Congress after an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1988.

He later served as George H.W. Bush's housing secretary, and was Bob Dole's running-mate when Dole made his presidential bid.

Jack Kemp is survived by his wife Joanne Kemp, sons Jeff (former NFL QB), Jimmy, daughters Jennifer and Judith.
