University shootings have become way too common, although hopefully not common enough to allow casual carrying of handguns on campuses, yet. On Thursday, on the Wesleyan University (Connecticut) campus, a shooting occurred in a bookstore in the campus area, resulting in the death of a student.

The Wesleyan University shooting took place at Broad Street Books, where a gun was recovered. Johanna Justin-Jinich was shot multiple times inside the Broad Street Book Store at about 1 p.m. Wednesday. She was taken to Middlesex Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

It seems like the Wesleyan University shooting was not random, and Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliano said he did not believe the public was in danger:

"It was focused. This wasn't random from what I can tell. Somebody went into a bookstore and fired multiple shots at one person."

Shooting victim Johanna Justin-Jinich is a 22-year-old Wesleyan University junior from Fort Collins, Colo. Police say they are still searching for the gunman, whom they described as a white male with a thin build, who had apparently been wearing a wig as a disguise.

Wesleyan President Michael S. Roth identified Justin-Jinich said in an email addressed to the campus:

"This is a devastating loss for Johanna's family, friends and for the entire Wesleyan community. Our hearts go out to all those who grieve for Johanna, and we hope all can find comfort in the support of friends, teachers and classmates."

In the wake of the shooting, Wesleyan University canceled the annual "Spring Fling" outdoor party on campus, along with all other campus events scheduled for today.

Wesleyan University shooting once more reminds us that we either need stricter gun control rules or just do something as a society to put an end to this unspeakable act. Since the year's beginning we have had so many public shootings claiming innocent lives that we have even lost track of it. Hopefully our society, congressmen and the senators with the government may come up with a comprehensive way to put an end to this and prevent university shootings or any public shooting from happening again.
