Drew Peterson, a former Illinois police sergeant who has been a suspected in the disappearance of his fourth wife, was arrested today and charged with murder in the death of his third wife.
The 2004 death of Drew Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio was originally ruled an accidental drowning. Her body was found in a dry bathtub on March 1, 2004, and investigators have since said they believe it was a homicide staged to look like an accident.
Meanwhile, Charles B. Pelkie, state attorney for Will County, Illinois, said while the grand jury issued an indictment for Savio's death, it continues to meet and is studying the possibility of charges in Drew Peterson's fourth wife Stacy's disappearance.
Stacy Peterson disappeared in October 2007. Intense media and police investigations unveiled the curiosities around Savio's death. She had died a few days before her divorce from Drew Peterson was to be finalized. How convenient, as the division of the marital assets had not yet taken place, obviously.
After Stacy Peterson's disappearance, Kathleen Savio's body was exhumed. An autopsy in November of 2007 determined that her death was no accident.
Pam Bosco, spokesperson for Stacy Peterson's family told WLS-TV:
"We have anticipated this coming. We have dreamed about it. We have been patient over it. Now that it's here, it's almost a little bit calm. We're waiting for the storm to calm now. The calm before the storm.
"We always said from the very beginning that Kathleen and Stacy had one thing in common -- and that was Drew Peterson. So, hopefully, we'll have news soon about Stacy, too."
