Where do all these hot Slavic women sports figures come from? By Slavic I would mean Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, etc. etc. In tennis, there's Maria Sharapova. And now, in golf is emerging Maria Verchenova.
Both Maria Verchenova and Maria Sharapova are Russian, to hone in specifically on which Slavic country she is from. Verchenova is the first Russian to become a full-time member of the Ladies European Tour. Both are pictured in the photo attached to this post; which would you pick as hotter, by the way.
Now the question is, will she shift to the LPGA? That could really help the tour. The last really, really pretty face I can remember, prior to Maria Verchenova, was Laura Baugh.
Admittedly, it's somewhat sexist to look at Maria Verchenova in this way, but what can I say?
Maria Verchanova's rookie season was in 2007, and she managed a top-10 finish in that year in Wales. In 2008 she broke the top five in Tenerife and contended for the lead with Annika Sorenstam in the end-of-year Dubai Ladies Masters.
In order to make the comparison with Maria Sharapova complete, Verchanova needs to win, and win not just on the European Tour but on the LPGA. Time will tell.
