Born Roderick Anthony Burton II in Chicago, Dolla was in Los Angeles to continue work on his debut album, A Dolla & A Dream. Dolla was reportedly shot and killed while he waited at the Beverly Center’s mall valet area with fellow rapper DJ Shabbazz.
Los Angeles police said in a statement that 23-year-old Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia, had been arrested at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with a gun on Monday night, as he attempted to board a plane. His bail has been set at $1 million.
According to reports, Berry had been identified as one of two suspects who allegedly fled from Beverly Center after Dolla was shot in a silver Mercedes-Benz SUV at approximately 3 PM.
Dolla's publicist, Sue Vannasing, indicated that the shooting may have been over an altercation during Dolla's flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles. "They followed him to the mall because they knew he was coming," Vannasing told the Los Angeles Times.
Dolla was a rising star, and is perhaps best known for the single "Feelin' Myself," which was featured in the 2006 dance film Step Up.
