Natalie Cole had been undergoing dialysis since September, 3 times a week. The singer has been battling Hepatitis C, which she revealed last July. She has said that saying she probably contracted the liver disease from drug use more than 30 years ago.
While the disease is unrelated to her kidneys, Cole received chemotherapy to treat it and told Larry King on his show last month that “within four months, I had kidney failure.”
She received innumerable letters from people offering to give her a kidney. However, a regional organ-procurement agency, One Legacy, found a kidney for Natalie Cole, from a deceased donor.
Natalie Cole is the daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole. The 1991 CD “Unforgettable ... With Love” paid tribute to her late father with reworked versions of some of his best-known songs. Individually, she has sold millions of records and won nine Grammys, including one in February for “Still Unforgettable,” since she made her recording debut in 1975.
